Since its establishment in 2017, The A.J. Williams-Myers African Roots Center has grown into a well-loved community center focused on culture, education, and social justice. For the first time since the library was founded, we are hiring an Executive Director to lead the organization in collaboration with our staff and board of directors.

“We’re looking for an Executive Director who will draw from our past to lead us into the future; a leader who knows that the problems that lay before us are not as strong as the ancestors who walk beside us,” says Odell Winfield, founder and board member. Winfield, after dedicating over half a decade of service to its development, is looking forward to passing the leadership of the organization to its first Executive Director.

The ideal candidate would be prepared to work in a highly collaborative environment with our board on top priorities such as strategic planning, program development and evaluation, communications, and financial management. The position is open to candidates who are prepared to be part of a leadership team, but whose current experience and skills may mean that they need time to grow into the role.

Please apply on Indeed by submitting a resume, a short cover letter articulating your dedication to the freedom of all oppressed people, and three professional references (names, relationship, email, and phone numbers). Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and the position will remain open until filled. We strongly encourage Black, Indigenous, Other People of Color, LGBTQAI+, and formerly incarcerated people to apply.
